Electric Charges

All matter is made of tiny pieces. Some of these pieces carry tiny bits of electricity called Electric Charges.

The Electric Charges can be either positive (+) or negative (-) charged. All matter is balanced (Neutral) with equal amounts of positive or negative charges. Positive and negative charges are attracted to each other.

Negative charges can be moved from one object to another. The matter that loses negative charges becomes positively charged due to the excess of positive charges. The matter that gains negative charges becomes negatively charged due to the negative charge buildup. The build up of positive or negative charges on matter is called Static Electricity.

When negative charges jump off a negatively charged object toward positive charges, it is called a Static Discharge. Lightning is an example of Static Discharge.
